Another Rainy Day

8ELA - Spelling Unit 22 was assigned today; we did an in-class precheck.  8B - Read and discussed 2 poems about love:  "Oranges" by Gary Soto and "haircut" by William Packard.  Made some notes about symbolism.   
8M SS - Summarized our discussion and notes on consequences of the fall of the Roman Empire.  Read about feudalism in medieval Europe. 
8B SS - Collected Greece/Rome magazines.  Used the remainder of the class as ELA.  HOMEWORK:  ORANGES/HAIRCUT Q. 1-4.
7SS - Returned Rights and Responsibilities tests for signing and return.  Discussed the content of upcoming SS exam.  NO HOMEWORK.

**Crowning of Mary mass tomorrow.  Please bring in a real or fabric flower for the celebration.

SS Magazines Due Soon

8SS - We've been using class time to create magazines based on Greek or Roman times.  Students were given the choice of time period and whether they want to work alone or with a partner.  Due to different start dates, 8M magazines are due Thursday, May 26 and 8B magazines are due Monday, May 30.
8ELA - Spelling Test is on Thursday.
7SS - Classes wrote the Rights and Responsibilities Test today and will starting the unit on Africa-Malawi-The Heaven Shop this week.

Retreat Day

8SS - Students continue working on Rome/Greece magazine which is due on May 25.  Rome Test tomorrow.
8ELA - Students were assigned questions from The Iron Barred Door yesterday; these will be corrected tomorrow.  Spelling is due tomorrow.

**All grade 7 and 8 students were on retreat today at the church.

Major Project Has Been Assigned

8ELA - Read and assigned The Iron-Barred Door by Monica Hughes.  HOMEWORK:  STORY QUESTIONS 1-9.  SPELLING DUE TOMORROW.
8SS - The Rome project was assigned yesterday and we used the class to review the rubric and view examplars.  Today we corrected question assigned yesterday on the Byzantine Empire and had a project work class.  The project is due May 25, Wednesday.  HOMEWORK:  PROJECT WORK.  ROME TEST IS ON THURSDAY, MAY 19.

**Permission forms for tomorrow's retreat were sent home yesterday.  Please make sure they come in tomorrow.

A Successful Tea!

Thanks to all the students and families who participated in our Spring Tea.  It was a great success; we raised almost $1000!  So now, it's back to work with only 5 weeks until exams.

8SS - Read about religion during Roman times with a focus on Jesus as a historical person.  HOMEWORK:  ROMAN RELIGION AND CHRISTIANITY Q. 1-6.

8ELA - Read the ballad The Forest Fire by Charles G. D. Roberts.  HOMEWORK:  THE FOREST FIRE Q. 1-7.  SPELLING UNIT 20.
